Make sure you match up the firmware version on your camera with the correct Magic Lantern “build”. I simply went to the Magic Lantern website, navigated to the Downloads section, and downloaded the software that matched the firmware version currently running on my camera. The installation was pretty smooth for my camera. I've have only used Magic Lantern on the Canon 5D Mark III, but assume that the installation and boot-up procedures are similar across the other camera bodies. That's because it takes time to reverse-engineer the camera and tailor the software to work alongside Canon's stock menu system. Notice that the cameras on this list are all older models. The developers are currently working on the software to support the Canon 70D, Canon SL1/100D, Canon T5/1200D, and Canon XSi/450D. A list of currently supported cameras includes the following: The software has since been developed to include many other Canon camera bodies, and even the EOS M series of mirrorless cameras. The source code was originally written by Trammell Hudson in 2009 for the first full-frame DSLR camera capable of 1080p video recording, the Canon 5D Mark II. This would presumably be done by someone who knows a thing or two about code. The software is open source, which means that anyone can download the source code to provide further developments and tweaks to the software. The software does not replace the stock Canon firmware, but instead runs parallel with it. Magic Lantern is essentially a software add-on that includes many features that are not included in the base menu system for Canon EOS cameras. If you happen to have some of those same questions, it will also hopefully provide some answers. This article provides my thoughts and experiences with using Magic Lantern so far. Questions like: “What does it do?”, “How does it work?”, and most importantly, “Is it going to break my camera?”. I had many of the usual questions about Magic Lantern that caused my hesitation. Although I had known about Magic Lantern since getting a Canon DSLR in 2013, it wasn't until recently that I decided to give it a try. This is especially true for those who are Canon shooters. Most photographers have probably heard or read something about Magic Lantern. Wa_audience: "emtaudience:consumer/gamer", This wasn't the case with Win 10 performance. But unfortunately, the new performance monitor in Windows 11 does not show that, everything above 2.2 GHz (Which the frequency at which turbo mode starts) is shown as 100. Wa_english_title: "What Is Intel® Turbo Boost Technology?", This time the Intel i7-8750H processor seems to work up to 3.9 GHz in turbo mode as expected, as far as I can see using CPU-Z. Wa_emtsubject: "emtsubject:consumertechnology/gaming", Wa_emttechnology: "emttechnology:inteltechnologies", Wa_emtcontenttype: "emtcontenttype:salesandmarketingmaterials/marketingarticles", You don’t need to download or configure anything. If you’re wondering how to enable Turbo Boost, don’t worry - it’s enabled by default. This can increase performance in both single-threaded and multithreaded applications (programs that utilize several processor cores). Intel® Turbo Boost Technology can potentially increase CPU speeds up to the Max Turbo Frequency while staying within safe temperature and power limits. This is sometimes called “algorithmic overclocking”. But when more speed is needed, Intel® Turbo Boost Technology dynamically increases the clock rate to compensate. Running at a lower clock rate (the number of cycles executed by the processor every second) allows the processor to use less power, which can reduce heat and positively impact battery life in laptops. In the following screenshot, for example, the base speed of my i5 processor is 2.5GHz, but you can see the turbo boost is kicking in and giving more than 3GHz. Intel® Turbo Boost Technology is an energy-efficient solution to this imbalance: it lets the CPU run at its base clock speed when handling light workloads, then jump to a higher clock speed for heavy workloads. Some programs are more dependent on memory to run smoothly, while others are CPU-intensive. How Does Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Work?ĬPUs don’t always need to run at their maximum frequency. Every sub-$500 laptop is at least 17.5mm but often closer to 19mm thick. It's also worth pointing out the Galaxy Book Go is, comparatively, very thin at just 14.9mm. That also contributes to the decent 3.04-pound weight (1.38kg), which isn't super light but not too heavy either. The chassis is a mix of metal and plastic that has some mild creaking, which is not unexpected at this price level. Source: Daniel Rubino / Windows Central (Image credit: Source: Daniel Rubino / Windows Central) Shot during the 1982 Cannes Film Festival, the movie consists of different directors alone in a hotel room where they respond to a question that Wenders had written on a piece of paper: “Is cinema a language that is about to get lost, an art that is about to die?” The spark for his ruminations was “Room 666,” a documentary from Wim Wenders that had just opened in New York. In 1985, The New York Times’s longtime film critic Vincent Canby wrote an inspired, admirably cranky essay about the future of cinema. |
